Cultural Crossroads: Hanwoori Hawaiʻi

Joining Hanwoori Hawaiʻi (Hanwoori), a Korean culture club at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, impacted my life in significant ways.

Han (한) can be translated as "one" and woori (우리) means "we". They can be translated together as "we are one". Hanwoori really is an ʻohana (family) for those who join. Ever since I joined Hanwoori, the members became a unique family away from home and left a lasting impression on me. The club has also provided me with many opportunities such as studying abroad in Seoul and joining the Hawaiʻi Korea Collaborative team. Thanks to Hanwoori, I have grown as a culturally diverse person and I hope to give you a glimpse of that through this video.

Have you been a part of a similar organization? What characteristic of Hanwoori stands out the most to you? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
